Being connected to a small group is
essential for Christian maturity to occur. Pearce has a number
of small groups that meet on a regular basis. These groups provide
fellowship, discipleship, accountability and ministry opportunities
for their members. There are ongoing Bible studies and prayer
groups that meet in people's homes or at church. Although they
cover a variety of topics, these groups are intentionally structured
to challenge people in their faith and provide a place where
caring relationships can develop. If you need help finding a
ChristCare small group that is right for you, contact Pastor Harold Scott.
Healthy
spiritual growth does not automatically occur. Personal and spiritual
growth requires a decision and a commitment. Growing old just
happens. Growing up takes effort. Rick Warren reminds us again
that "a person must want to grow, decide to grow, and make
an effort to grow."
There are tried and true practices that can help a Christian notice and respond to God's desire for a grown up relationship. Just as an athlete or musician learns that there are disciplines he or she must follow to achieve their goals. Christians for 2000 years have discovered there are disciplines such as prayer, Scripture reading, worship and others that promote spiritual growth.
Healthy spiritual growth occurs in the context of Christian community. Christianity has been called a "social religion." It just doesn't happen in private. It involves a personal relationship and commitment to Jesus Christ and to His Church - the body of Christ. It is in the context of those relationships that we grow.
