Everyone Needs A Nurse

The Pearce Parish Nursing Team's Mission

In Luke 9:2, Jesus sent disciples to preach and heal the sick. According to 1 Corinthians 12:27, God has appointed those in the church having gifts of healing. Working from this biblical perspective, the Pearce Parish Nursing Team offers a ministry by responding to the physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of members of the community.

Grief Share

Griefshare is a spiritual emergency room for people who are going through times of crisis and loss.  This program provides the ongoing support needed by someone who is experiencing grief and loss.  Group participants will find a “family” who cares and understands how they feel.

The Parish Nurse Team at Pearce Church offers a weekly GriefShare group typically on Monday evenings.  This 12-week grief support group encourages people week after week as they experience healing in their lives.

Each GriefShare session offers a video in an interesting television magazine format and features interviews with leading experts on grief recovery.  They also include on-location video and the real life stories of people who have experienced the grieving process.  Each group participant receives a special workbook for note taking, a daily Bible Study and other resources to help group members recover from loss.

GriefShare is a powerful program that provides ongoing support and encouragement to those who grieve the loss of someone close.  You are invited to be a part of this group or you may encourage a grieving friend to participate in this upcoming session of GriefShare.

For the 2008 winter months there will not be a GriefShare group. Please call the church office at 594-9488 to sign up for the next available session.

History

The parish nurse ministry role originated in the early 1970's when a hospital chaplain realized that nurses were able to speak two languages - the language of health care and the language that laypersons could easily understand. Since then, parish nurses have become valuable members of church ministerial staffs, visiting parishioners who have physical problems, enabling them to access appropriate community resources and ministering to the spiritual needs of the patient and family. The Pearce Parish Nursing Team was commissioned by Pearce Memorial Church on October 17, 1993, to use their abilities to facilitate and promote health and healing.
