What are your favorite aspects of the job?

I feel privileged to serve as a pastor and find many aspects of my vocation to be a delight.  Of course, as a pastor, I have the opportunity to meet many people, hear their stories, and watch the ways in which God’s grace touches their lives.  I am fortunate to share with them some of life’s significant moments, be it a wedding day, the birth of a child, or the death of a dearly loved family member.  And, of course, I have the honor of opening the Word of God and exploring its incredible message.  Every week is different, every new day filled with reminders of our Father’s love!

What is your pet peeve?

Cashiers who don’t say anything or make eye contact as they hand you your receipt and change. I’m not demanding warm hospitality, but I do appreciate civility!

What is your favorite song to blast from your desk?

I don’t blast music from my desk at Pearce, but I do like to crank it up when I am driving. One of my favorites at high volume is”Run-Around” by Blues Traveler. (I enjoy John Popper’s harmonica playing!) I have long enjoyed Moody Blues and have recently discovered Mumford and Sons. But my tastes are pretty diverse in music and some good Argentinian folk music or even the Brandenburg Concertos may be heard as I drive by.

What is your favorite comfort food?

Life is good when I’m sipping a Starbuck’s Caramel Macchiato (skinny, decafe, and iced in warm weather!), enjoying hot wings at Buffalo Wild Wings, or picking up a Joey Bag of Donutes Burrito at Moe’s.

What are your favorite aspects of the job?

I love the fact that every day is different. I come in, in the morning and have a basic idea of what I’m going to be doing but who knows if that’s really how the day is going to work out. Some day’s I’m setting up mission trips to Europe and the next day I’m teaching a Sportsmen Education Class. I love that I get to be with teens, I enjoy training volunteers, and I love watching as people grow in their walks with Christ.

What is your pet peeve?

Slow drivers – I am generally a patient man, but I am also a huge NASCAR fan, so if you see me in your rear view mirror, it’s not that I’m tailgating, I am just drafting.

What are your favorite aspects of the job?

I am a music nerd. Therefore, my favorite aspects of working at Pearce usually have to do with arranging music for Sunday services and special holiday services. I thank the Lord that He’s given us all the ability to take sounds and form them into melodies and rhythms that communicate our love for the Creator. I also enjoy people and food—put the two together and you’ve got a wonderful conversation while eating a garbage plate!

What is your pet peeve?

Inaccessible music – it has to have a rhythm and a melody – otherwise you may be taking yourself to seriously. (Come on now, John Cage).

What are your favorite aspects of the job?

I love watching the staff love the children! With so many families in and out of the building during each day, it is hard for me to personally know all of them but when I walk through the hallways and see/hear the children and staff together and know that the children are loved and cared for so well by our staff, it is extremely satisfying and gives me a passion for this ministry. I also, believe it or not, really enjoy the administrative aspects of my job which, because we are licensed by the state of New York, are many!
