Sunday Mornings for Young and Senior Teens

Grades 7-8
Junior Teens will be using the youth addition of Henry Blackaby's Experiencing God. This curriculum will focus on learning to hear God's voice, discerning His will, and adjusting your life to God's will, therefore experiencing God through obedience. For many teens in junior high, these years are crucial to the formation of their beliefs. These are years when they begin to explore their own beliefs, which can occasionally cause tension when those beliefs don't match those of their parents. Our goal during the Junior High years is to help both the students and the parents navigate these difficult waters. We want to encourage the students to discover for themselves God's will for their lives, match that with what God's word tells us, and discern what their response should be to those two factors. For parents our desire is to help them realize that the world isn't over if their child doesn't follow exactly in their parents spiritual footsteps. We want to be a stabilizing presence for both the parents and the students. We want to practice a holistic approach to Youth Ministry, which means the students, the parents and the Youth ministry team all need to be involved in the spiritual growth of our students.

Grades 9-12
For the 2007-2008 school year our senior teens will be broken into 5 groups. The 9-10 grade boys will be doing a biblical survey. There will be plenty of scriptural study intertwined with life application. The 9-10 grade girls will be using the same curriculum. The eleventh grade class will be looking at the life of Christ, and will be doing so with a focus on how God/Christ has demonstrated His love for us. They will be using the Nooma video series by Rob Bell. Rob is the pastor of Mars Hill church in Michigan and comes from an Emergent/Post-modern perspective. He is biblically sound and will certainly spark conversation. Our seniors will be addressing real life questions that they are facing currently as well as what they will face in college. There will also be a focus throughout the year on prayer. The class will provide directed opportunities to experience a variety of prayers as well as a chance to observe God's answers. Finally this year we will be offering to our juniors and seniors an elective option. Barry Smith will be leading an intense class on the characters of the Old Testament. This class may require outside reading, and additional prep time for students. It is designed to give kids a chance to learn what made these men and women of God who they were. This is an elective class and will be combined with college students. Teens need to prayerfully consider their participation in this class. They will have the first couple weeks to try out the class before making a final decision.
