Learning Reasons for Hope
Pictured are the eight folks from Pearce who recently attended the “Reason for Hope” seminar at Browncroft Community Church. The speaker for the event was Dr. Michael Barry, who is the Director of Pastoral Care for Cancer Treatment Centers of America. He shared from a chaplain’s perspective an understanding of cancer patients’ needs for a reason for hope. I am thankful for these, and others at Pearce, for extending Christ’s love in such concrete ways.
Two of those in the photo are Stephen Ministers (Wayne Drew and Pastor Harold) and two are on Pearce’s Cancer Support Leadership Team (Ester Skiff and Cheryl Crotser).
Amerks Help Us Out!
Pastor Harold was quite surprised a couple of weeks ago when one of the Amerks’ staff members approached him at a game and presented him with a $248 donation to our church. Pastor Harold was hosting a group from Pearce at the recent “Faith and Family Night.” Since Pearce’s group was the largest in attendance at the game, the Amerks donated a portion of the ticket sales. Pastor Harold directed this unexpected gift to “Not for Sale” to assist in the cause to eliminate modern slavery.
Saturday Worship Experiences a First
Those attending Pearce’s Saturday evening worship service shared a special moment last week as Roy and Julie Smith brought their first son, James, to be baptized. This was the first baptism held for this worshiping group that began meeting six months ago. Needless to say, James stole the show and is already requesting an opportunity to preach!
It’s been a while since I’ve given an update on Pearce’s finances. Mike Vannest, Pearce’s treasurer, recently sent me this chart reflecting giving thus far this year. You’ll note that we are doing well on giving to general operations and missions. We are a bit down in our building fund or, more accurately, our “debt reduction” fund. Giving to this fund helps us meet our monthly payments on the loans taken out in 2001 to help finance construction of the Family Life Center and educational wing. Thanks for your continued generosity to Pearce’s ministries!
