A couple of weeks ago, my nephew Sam, who is five years old, said to his gramma (my mom), “Gramma, I only love one person more than you.” Gramma asked him, “who is that?” His reply, “God.” Sam is a little boy who is part of Sunday school and morning worship with his family in church.
Several months ago, a close friend of mine (her husband and daughter came to our morning worship service here at Pearce) were visiting their daughter, who is an RIT student. My friend told me after the service that she loved the fact that so many children were in our worship service, worshipping as families. She said to me, “Kathy, it was so great to see parents just loving on their kids.”
As we move into this New Year, I am reminded at how important our ministry is to children. The ministry of Nursery, Sunday School, Kids’ Bags, Kids’ Worship, Kids’ Zone, and VBS are not just “programs” to keep our children busy, but they are important to their faith development. I am thankful for the many teachers and volunteers that work with our kids. I am also thankful to work with a Senior Pastor who values children and finds them to be important people, enough so as to invite them up front for children’s moments. These are impacting times for our kids’ faith journey.
Sam, as a little boy, has learned about a God who loves Him. My friend noticed a very important ministry philosophy we have at Pearce-that family worship is important and we love having our kids with us in the service. To me they bring life, a fresh perspective. and the hope that we will continue to grow as a congregation. In the concrete way a child thinks and processes stories and life, how awesome it is for a child to say, “I love God with all my heart.”
Please be praying for our kids in this new year. Pray that they would have a great year in growing in their walk with Jesus.
I would like you to all be aware and praying for a Children’s Pastor Conference in Florida that Rita Dean, our Nursery coordinator, and I will be attending from January 15–19. To find out more about it and the training Rita and I will be able to go to, check out: www.incm.org, click on Orlando conference, then on the right side of that page click on breakout sessions. There you will find the training that is available. If any of you find a topic of interest, let me know and I can get the CD recording of it for you.
Blessings to all and thank you for your prayers and support!Pastor Kathy
