We just finished an amazing VBS at Pearce. In Wegman’s the other day, I chatted with a mom who told me what a great week her little girl had at Kingdom Rock. I met this family through our Kids’ Gym ministry. (I actually saw several kids from our Kids’ Gym ministry at VBS!) She thanked me for what we do here at Pearce for the children. We need to remember, we impact kids for a lifetime! Just today, I was reminded of how influencing our ministry to kids can be, not just to the children, but for the adult volunteers as well. I had a chance to talk and pray with Dee Reed this morning. She told me about how important Pearce Church is to her. She shared with me that she taught at Fairbanks Road School and taught Sunday School for years; one of her first Sunday school students was Dave Anderson, right around the age of 5 years old. She had a great story to share about him singing. I could hear the joy in her voice as she shared her memories with me.
This past year, we had a wonderful team of Sunday school and Wednesday night teachers, as well as helpers. Some highlights this year were: hearing the testimonies of the kids who were baptized and joined the church in youth membership, and the buzz of excitement for the first graders receiving their Bibles from Pearce. Other past highlights included “Fall into Fun” in October, and the Children’s musical and Family Story Hour, in December. In each of these ministry events, kids had fun and were challenged by the timeless story of Jesus.
As I sit here in the present, thinking and thanking God for this past years’ events, I am reminded of how quickly the future comes upon us. Already, I am gearing up for September and the start-up of all these great ministry programs for kids at Pearce. As fall approaches, I need two things from you: first, prayer, and second, I continue to need volunteers. Sunday school teachers and helpers are needed, as well as a 2014 VBS director. Julie Bailey is stepping down from the director position. However, she will stay on the VBS team and recently told me she and her husband, Craig, will teach the 5th and 6th grade boys’ Sunday school class. I am so thankful for her leadership and willingness to serve. So, as she is moving to a new seat of leadership, Pearce needs a VBS director for 2014. The theme is exciting and, already, people have been talking about it! Please pray for this position to be filled, as well as the volunteers needed for Sunday school and Wednesday night. Also, prayerfully consider how you may be able to help.
Thanks again for all you do to support the kids’ ministries at Pearce. Remember, many of you can have the same kind of “kid story” to tell someday that Dee Reed shared with me today!
