Pray First: Each Sunday through the month of January, we are asking our church family to come together in the Family Life Center at 10am for an hour of multi-generational prayer. I understand this is a sacrifice, as we have some beloved Sunday School teachers and classes. Yet we believe that our God of unfailing love will honor His Church as we come before Him in united prayer.
Last Sunday, our focus was to wait on God, to “be still and know that (He) is God” (Psalm 46:10). This Sunday, our focus is to ask God to make His will for us clear for this new year, in all of its opportunities. Paul taught the early church to pray and ask God to fill us with the knowledge of His will that we might live a life worthy of Him and please Him in every way (Colossians 1:9-10). Of all that we could be doing, we want God to guide and direct our steps in keeping with His will and purposes for this year.
The following Sunday (January 21), our focus will be on unity. In the final prayer of Jesus, before He was arrested, He asked our God of unfailing love to make us “one” church. This was a prayer that we would be united in our love for God and neighbor, so that the world would know that God sent Jesus, as Jesus sends us (John 15).
And on the final Sunday of the month (January 28), our focus is on the harvest. Jesus taught us that we should pray for and expect “fruit,” much “fruit,” “fruit” that will last. This “fruit” is a spiritual harvest of hearts and homes as the Spirit of God empowers us to look, live, and love like Jesus.
You’re invited to join us as we “Pray First!” We pray that our God of unfailing love will bless us on the journey to be and make disciples of Jesus that love God and neighbor.
