When God Left the Building is a documentary about to be released. This is a story of the exodus of America’s faithful and what’s next. Director Thom Schultz set out on a journey to uncover why churches—once the heart and soul of their communities—are now shrinking in both size and influence. Sadly, there are parts of this that strike close to home even for our beloved church here at Pearce.
How will we respond? I promise you we will not throw up our hands in despair. I am even more confident that our God of unfailing love is not pacing the porch of heaven wringing His hands and lamenting, “Oh no, what will I do now?”
No, our God of unfailing love is calling us back to the Journey to join with our God on a mission to the world. This word Journey is a great reminder and perhaps a wake-up call for the church at large.
We are humbly using this word Journey to capture our longing for biblically healthy community, whether in a Sunday morning class or an “anytime of the week” small group. We are inviting you to join us for an 8-week church-wide conversation in Journey groups of various sizes and shapes, to prayerfully and carefully reconsider what it means to be Christian in today’s world.
Ellen and I are eager to join in with one of these Journey groups and hear what our God of unfailing love will show us and teach us. We love this church!
