Hi Friends—Children’s Sunday School is back starting this Sunday at 10am! It is now called Journey Kids and it will be an amazing hour. I have invited Pastor Kayleigh to use the rest of my blog to share her heart on this exciting relaunch for our children and families!
“Then people brought children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them and pray for them.” —Matthew 19:13a
I love the picture this verse paints. You see Jesus placing his hands on the little children, praying for them and welcoming them, but you also see people going out of their way to bring these children to Jesus. Later on, Jesus will say, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them.” There is an invitation given to each and every Jesus-follower to bring children to him, to not get in their way but to do all we can to lead kids to the feet of Jesus. What a wonderful invitation! We get to be the people in this story who bring children to Jesus—that is why we do family ministries—to journey with all families as they grow to look, live, and love like Jesus. It is our prayer that we, as a church, love families in such a way that we are always bringing children to the feet of Jesus, and that prayer is what motivates each and every decision we make regarding Family Ministries here at Pearce.
When Pastor Roger arrived in the fall, he became aware that there were 20 children participating in our Sunday morning children’s ministry. While we rejoice that these 20 were being brought to Jesus, we understand that there are so many more children who do not know that there is a God who loves them, and God is calling us to bring those children to Jesus. How do we do this? By always seeking to be a church where all families feel they belong, where kids and teenagers are loved unconditionally by adults who are dedicated to journeying with them as they grow to look, live, and love like Jesus.
Pearce has a rich history of embracing the call to bring kids to Jesus. Our Pearce 4 Kids program gives testament to that fact. It is part of our church’s DNA to seek to lead children to Jesus. We want to hold onto this calling and seek God’s direction on how he is asking us to bring kids to him today. As we seek God’s leading in this, it means asking difficult questions. We have to be honest with ourselves and ask, are we truly a church where families feel like they belong? Do kids and teenagers feel like they can bring their brokenness and mess into our church? Let’s face it—family ministries is messy, but that’s what makes it so wonderful, for it is in the midst of brokenness and mess that God’s redemption and hope can truly become known.
Church, thank you for doing whatever we can to ensure that we are bringing children to Jesus and not hindering them, even when it means changes. Thank you for trusting that every change made is done to help make our church a place where kids are brought to Jesus, a place where kids and teens know they are loved and that they belong. As one parent in our congregation said, “I am very hopeful and encouraged about the ideas for a deep, intentional children’s ministry at Pearce Church. My prayer is for our child to grow up knowing that he is loved and valued by God, his family, and also his church family. I believe that the changes prayerfully suggested by the lead team at Pearce will support and foster a sense for children that they truly matter and are a key part of Christ’s Church (Mark 10:14). Plus, it just sounds like so much fun!”
It is this dedication to bringing children to Jesus that has led us to Journey Kids, an engaging worship and small group experience for kids K-6th grade, taking place every Sunday at 10am in Parmerter. So, join us in embracing God’s invitation to bring children to him. Find out how you can serve on the Family Ministry Team, bring your kids, bring your neighbors, and pray as we take these first steps in Journey kids.
Blessed to be on this journey with you,
