Sometimes it’s good to pull away to the quiet place. It’s the example of Jesus. But life is lived “On the Way.” I’m glad we find Jesus in the quiet place, but I’m also glad that Jesus finds us “On the Way.” So many times, our fervent prayers are answered “On the Way” of obedience. It requires trusting faith to keep moving forward “On the Way” while we wait for God to show up and answer our heartfelt prayers. (more…)
Dangling to a Close
I am at a loss as I sit down to compose my final Dangling Conversation. I have so much I want to say, yet I find myself not knowing how to express what is on my heart.
I guess you could say, “I’m left dangling!” At a loss for words. (more…)
Dangling at Loose Ends
In case you haven’t noticed, it is Friday afternoon! This Dangling has arrived in your mailbox a day late!
Please accept my apologies. For the past several years that I’ve been sending you this weekly missive, I’d tried to keep to a strict schedule and have it sent every Thursday afternoon. (I should add, this has been accomplished in part through the efficiency of our Communications Director, Kim Mantegna!) (more…)
There’s quite a bit going on in my world this week as I work to wrap things up here at Pearce. (I’m hard at work trying to pack books, clean out files, and clear out my office in time for Pastor Roger’s arrival on September 18!) So I am going to leave you Dangling. Let’s pick up the conversation next week (September 7) and bring it to a close my final week at Pearce with my last Dangling on September 14. I appreciate all your prayers for Mary and me as we do all we can to prepare for the transition of pastoral leadership here at Pearce. I am confident that the Lord has good things in store for this community of faith!
Morning Moms meets on Friday mornings at 9:30am (September-April). Child care is available for children from birth to age 5. Come, and bring a friend who could use a little time with other moms for support, encouragement, and friendship. Two study topics will be offered this fall: “God Is Faithful” and a book study of Life Long Love by Gary Thomas. If you are interested, contact Michelle Ernsthausen at email@example.com to learn more.
First Time in Worship
I had the great privilege this past Sunday of welcoming Roy and Julie Smith’s youngest son to his first worship service! Six-week-old Felix appeared to be quite relaxed during the gathering and even assisted me with the greeting and call to worship. After the service, over cups of coffee, we discussed theology and Dr. Coventry’s interpretation of the John 21 passage in the day’s sermon. (more…)
What’s Around the Corner?
In my annual report to the Pearce family near the beginning of this year, I wrote this regarding our year of transition: “There’s no need to be anxious. Our Heavenly Father has the incredible ability to get this church to the exact place He desires it to be. He will provide new pastoral leadership that will guide this congregation around the corners that lie ahead.” (more…)
