We had a wonderful time at our Women’s Retreat at Lighthouse Christian Camp in August! Thirthy-three women attended. Dr. Joyce Wagner challenged us in the morning, I spoke at noon, and Dr. Gina Teresi shared in the late afternoon. I have been hearing great things from the women who attended; they felt like they had time to stop and connect with the Lord and each other.
I also want to encourage you to come to an Open Forum on Women’s Ministry here at Pearce. We want to share what is happening and hear from you as well! The forum will be on Tuesday, September 22, at 6:30pm in the Friendship Center.
Also, save the date for a Women’s Brunch on Saturday, November 7, from 10am-noon. Dr. Deana Porterfield, RWC President, will be our guest speaker.
Pearce Kids’ Ministry will be in full swing later this month. Check out our Kids’ Ministry schedule for details.
I want to highlight what the kids will be covering in Sunday School this fall. From September through the end of November, our kids will be covering three units from the book of Genesis:
- Unit 1: THE GOD WHO CREATED US
- Unit 2: THE GOD WHO CORRECTS US
- Unit 3: THE GOD WHO CALLS US
Kid’s Worship begins on Sunday, September 20, during the 10am worship service. Parents can sign-in their kids before the service (at the back of the sanctuary) and sign them out in Parmerter Chapel. To allow the kids to participate in intergenerational worship, children not be dismissed until right before the sermon. The message during Kids’ Worship will be geared for kids’ from kindergarten-4th grade. Remember to check the Kids’ Ministry schedule for dates: we will not hold Kids’ Worship on holidays or on Communion Sundays. We want the children to be part of the whole service on these special Sundays. Kids’ bags will be available on the Sundays when Kids’ Worship does not meet, and Children’s Moments will be offered during the service.
Camp Wednesday and Collide 56 start up on Wednesday, September 16. We are looking forward to another great year of Wednesday nights, where our kids are challenged to live for Jesus through stories, games, prayer, and fellowship.
Thank you to all who have joined the Kids’ Ministry team! Please be praying for our children, their families, and our ministry leaders. Pray that in all that we do and say, Jesus would be at the center and that our kids can be nurtured and challenged in a holy, healthy community. If you have any questions, please contact me!
VBS 2015, “Everest: Conquering Challenges with God’s Mighty Power:” Through Bible stories of the prophet Elijah, Naaman, Jesus and His journey to the cross, and the promise of heaven, we learned that God has the power to provide, comfort, heal, forgive, and love us forever. Between the kids and our volunteer helpers, around 385 people were in our building each day for VBS. Forty-one kids made first time commitments to Jesus, 130 children said they were staying committed to following Jesus, and many asked for prayer for special requests. God was glorified and lives were changed! VBS was a week where members of our community came together as the body of Christ for the purpose of seeing the lives of children impacted for Jesus. I want to say a big thank you to all who helped! There was no small task—everyone worked together to help this amazing program come together.
Children’s Sunday School for the 2015-2016 school year will be starting up on September 20, and my teacher positions are filled! However, I still need co-teachers/helpers for two grades. Helping in a Sunday school class setting is a great way to impact kids’ lives on a weekly basis. Please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are able to help or would like to learn more.
Wednesday night programs for kids begin on September 16, from 6:30-8pm. Camp Wednesday is for kids in grades K-4 and Collide 56 is for 5th and 6th graders. I am still building a leadership team for both of these exciting ministries. These programs provide the opportunity to build relationships with children while having fun and learning in Christian community. Please contact me if you are interested in serving in our Wednesday night ministries.
This month, I want to highlight our Kids’ Bag ministry. You may have noticed the bright bags that are located in the Narthex and on the front pew of the sanctuary during our 10:30am worship service. These are our Kids’ Bags. These bags usually contain crayons, a clipboard with work sheets for the kids, and some type of allergy-free candy. The worksheets are purchased through the website “KidsWord.” Each worksheet is based on a story from the Bible and follows the traditional church calendar. Some weekends, we add a special craft to the bag. The kids usually pick up their kid’s bags after the Children’s Moments portion of the service. These Kids’ Bags, along with Children’s Moments, are an example of how important our kids are at Pearce. They give kids an opportunity to engage and be a part of the worship service. Thank you to those who have volunteered to help clean and refill these bags each week!
We have only two weeks left of Sunday school! June 14 will be our last day until we start our new Sunday school year on September 20. It has been a great year of learning God’s Word! I am thankful for our many teachers and helpers and for Mary Price. In addition to taking Sunday school attendance, Mary has faithfully taught our little ones songs throughout the school year. Please take time to thank the people who have impacted our kids this year. And, if you would like to be on the Sunday school teaching team for the 2015/2016 school year, please let me know. Sunday school is a ministry that grounds our kids in the Word of God. Thank you for praying for this ministry and seeing the importance of getting your kids here on Sunday mornings!
Sunday school may be almost done, but the learning isn’t over! Be watching for a disciple book you can work through with your kids over the summer, as a part of our summer kids reading program. More information on this exciting opportunity will be coming soon!
Bible Weekend is coming June 20/21! We’ll present Bibles to our 1st graders and 6th graders in the 5pm Saturday service and during the 10am service on Sunday. An all-church picnic will follow the Sunday service. I am collecting names for the Bibles during Sunday school. If your 1st or 6th grader does not attend Sunday school and you would like for them to receive a Bible, please email me at email@example.com with their name (as you would like it printed in their Bible) and which service you will be attending. This is a very exciting day of celebrations; you do not want to miss it!
May and June are my recruitment months for the Sept 2015-June2016 Kids’ Ministry. Volunteering is a great way to be involved in the lives of our kids. It is exciting to see them grow in faith, to hear their testimonies of asking Jesus to be their Savior! You can become a volunteer in children’s ministries at Pearce and share the life-changing message of Jesus Christ with His children! This is a great time to join the team. Please contact me and I will let you know how you can be part of the Pearce Kids’ Ministry team. Take a look at these pictures of our kids (above) and pray about how God would want you to be involved. These are pictures of our last Wednesday night ministry for the school year. You see pictures of our traditional Parent vs. Kid Dodgeball Night for 5th and 6th graders. I heard the kids won! You also see pictured our K-4th grade bunch from Camp Wednesday. For our last night, we played kickball with a beach ball. Our devotions were on I Timothy 4:12. We wanted to send the kids off with a life-impacting verse. The conversation was great and a child prayed a beautiful prayer to the Lord.
Thank you for your prayers and support of Pearce Kids’ Ministry.
Spring is here! Jesus is risen! We have so much to be thankful for! One thing (and there are many) that I am thankful for is a great year in Kids’ Ministry between Sunday School, Little Kids’ Worship, Camp Wednesday, nursery ministry, Kids’ Gym, and the start-up of VBS 2015. Speaking of VBS, we are rolling with preparations for this summer’s VBS Everest. We still need a lot of volunteers! If you’d like to help, contact VBS director Julie Bailey at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Become a volunteer in children’s ministries at Pearce and share the life-changing message of Jesus Christ with His children! This is a great time to join the team. Within the next month or so, I will begin recruiting help for next fall. Please contact me and I will let you know how you can be part of the Pearce Kids’ Ministry team. Take a look at these pictures of our kids (above) and pray about how God would want you to be involved.
Bible Sunday is coming sooner than you think! This June, our 1st graders and 6th graders will be receiving Bibles from the church. Bibles will be presented in two services: the 5pm service on Saturday, June 20, and the 10am service on Sunday, June 21. An all-church picnic will follow the Sunday service. I will be collecting names for the Bibles during Sunday school. If your 1st or 6th grader does not attend Sunday school, please email me at email@example.com with their name (as you would like it printed in their Bible) and which service you will be attending.
Thank you for your prayers and support of the Kids’ Ministry at Pearce.
Youth Baptism will be offered on Sunday, May 10. As we draw closer to this date, I am asking each young person who has a sense that God is calling them to be baptized to fill out an information sheet including their testimony. I will need these sheets back by Sunday, April 12. I will be handing the sheets out to 5th & 6th grade classes on Wednesday night and Sunday morning, or you can just ask me for one.
Once I have your young person’s information/testimony sheet, I will schedule a time to meet with them to talk and pray about their faith journey with Jesus. If your child is not ready to make this step of baptism, I do not want them to feel pressured to do so. It is their journey with Jesus—some are ready now, some will be ready at another time in the future. Pastor Wally will be teaching on Baptism and Communion on Wednesday, March 18, during Collide 56 (6:30-8pm). I encourage all our 5th and 6th graders to attend, even if they are not ready to be baptized. It is a wonderful teaching time and a great opportunity for them to connect with the Lead Pastor of our church.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
Preparation for this summer’s VBS Everest is well under way. We need you! First, we need you to be praying about this ministry and for the children that will fill our sanctuary July 13-17. Second, we need station leaders (teachers) for various stations. Third, we need crew leaders. If your heart is being touched to be a part of VBS 2015, please contact me or Julie Bailey (firstname.lastname@example.org).
I would ask that you continue to pray for the kids ministry at Pearce. A lot is happening in our kids’ lives. It is a blessing for them to have a safe place to learn and fellowship. If you have any questions about Sunday School, Wednesday night kids’ programs, Kids’ Gym, VBS 2015, or the nursery, please let me know.
FYI! Our VBS Leadership Team is having our first planning meeting in February. Please be praying!
- Julie Bailey, director
- Krys Merriam, assistant director
- Christy Sadecki
- Lindsay Baxter
- Pastor Kathy
Save the date, July 13-17, and be praying about how you can be involved in this amazing ministry!
I have great news for our K-4th Grade Camp Wednesday ministry! Mary-Kate Honan has agreed to be take the lead for this group. Mary-Kate has grown up in the Pearce community and is now a freshman nursing student at RWC. She has been working with Camp Wednesday since September and has shown leadership skills and a great connection with the kids. Please be praying for her as she leads, works, and studies. It is so exciting to see our youth grow into adult leadership roles.
A Story to Tell!
This story I am about to share with you reflects how family and church work together. One of our third graders, Rebecca, has been excited about Sunday school. She is pictured above with her mom, Kim. Her Sunday school teachers are Judy Bailey and Barb Sipes. Rebecca has lots to talk about with her mom about what she is learning in Sunday school. This week, Kim shared with me how excited Rebecca is about the class. On Monday, January 26, their discussion about Sunday school led from one thing to another and Kim prayed with Rebecca to receive Jesus in her heart. At Camp Wednesday that week, we were having a time for the kids to share what they were learning and Rebecca shared her story of receiving Jesus into her heart.
Please be praying for Rebecca and her decision to give her heart to Jesus. Pray for all of our kids and their families, along with their teachers and leaders, as we work together to grow their love for Jesus.
Blessings to you all and thank you for praying!
Looking back over December:
Our kids’ performance of the musical G.T. and the Halo Express: Ticket to Christmas on December 7, was a great night. The kids did a fantastic job! We had close to 400 people come to support our children—parents, grandparents, extended family members, teachers, and friends. We pray they were each blessed by this presentation of the message of Christmas.
We all came together for Family Story Hour on December 17. Parmerter Chapel was full of kids and their families singing and listening to Christmas stories told by Pastor Wally. We concluded the evening in the Family Life Center for refreshments, and the kids received wooden toys from the Pearce Toy Makers. One of the men told me he had been doing this for 25 years at Pearce—how special! December was a beautiful month and I am so thankful for the ways we celebrate the birth of Jesus in our church.
Looking Forward: Happy New Year 2015!
The Pearce Kid’s Ministry schedule begins on Sunday January 4, with Sunday school resuming. Camp Wednesday and Collide 56 start up on Wednesday, January 7, from 6:30-8pm. Kid’s Gym also begins on January 7, from 10-11am in the Family Life Center.
I would like you to get several dates on your calendar now. One is Youth Baptism Sunday, held on May 10 (Mother’s Day). We will start talking to our 5th and 6th graders in January, asking them to pray and talk to you parents to see if they are ready for this commitment. In preparation for this time, Pastor Wally will give a special teaching to the 5th and 6th graders on Communion and Baptism.
Another important date is for VBS 2015: July 13-17, from 9am-12noon each day! This year’s theme is “Everest: Conquering Challenges with God’s Mighty Power.” Please be praying about how you can be involved! Preparations for VBS will begin as early as January.
Happy New Year!
Looking Back at Fall Into Fun
We had a great night of fun and fellowship on Halloween. Thank you to all who volunteered and worked hard to make this night a safe place for families to come with their kids! We are already excited about next year’s Fall Into Fun event.
Every Wednesday, from 10-11am, our Family Life Center is opened up to the community for parents and caregivers to bring their preschoolers to play. The adults can gather to chat while the kids safely play in a big area. At the end, we bring out a big parachute for the kids to play under and then sit on top of to sing songs. If you have a preschooler and are looking for a fun activity for these cold months, please come and join us.
We need nursery volunteers for the month our college students are on break. Please see Rita Dean if you are able to serve. The kids are precious and fun to be with. We also still need volunteers for our 5pm Christmas Eve service. It is such a great time to be with the kids and is a way to minister to families—providing a safe place for the little ones, so the adults and older children can worship together. Rita and I look forward to hearing from you!
Special Christmas Events for Kid’s at Pearce
On Sunday, December 7, at 6pm in the Sanctuary, our Pearce kids will be presenting G.T. and the Halo Express: Ticket to Christmas, a Christmas musical about the greatest gift ever given: Jesus. There will be live music, an adult choir will accompany on one of the songs, and a cookie reception will follow in the FLC. It will be a great way to celebrate Jesus with the kids of our church.
Wednesday, December 17, at 6:30pm will be our Family Story Hour. Pastor Wally will read two Christmas stories to the whole family—you won’t want to miss this! Kids may come in their pj’s and bring a blanket and favorite stuffed animal. We’ll gather in Parmerter for the story and then in the FLC for a Christmas reception. A fun feature of the night will be gifts for the kids from our Pearce Toymakers. The Toymakers have been creating wooden items for all of our kids, from new babies all the way up to kids in 6th grade.
As always, it is a blessing to be your children’s pastor. May this Christmas season be a special time for you and your family as, together, we celebrate the birth of our King!
Rita Dean has been overseeing our nursery for several years now. I am thankful for her friendship and the love and concern she has for the children she oversees. She also helps me run our Wednesday morning Kids’ Gym ministry. Rita is married to Ardell Dean, one of our part-time handymen. The Deans love the Lord and the church where God has called them to serve.
One of the many blessings at Pearce is the RWC community and the young women we are able to hire to work in our nurseries on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings. They create a safe environment and allow our little ones to see the same faces in the nursery each week. Rita holds regular training with these workers. One of the young women is our nursery safety coordinator while Rita attends the worship service.
These young women are with us for about nine months out of the year; for the other three months, we depend on volunteers to staff our nursery. Volunteer time is coming very soon, with Thanksgiving and Christmas just around the corner! Please pick up a volunteer card (pictured above), they are located at the atrium Welcome Kiosk or Rita has a supply on-hand. Fill it out to let us know what Sundays you are able to serve as a volunteer in the nursery. When complete, you can hand it directly to Rita or me. If you have not gone through our safety screening process, we will do that so you are able to serve. The process consist of an interview, filling out a screening form, and running your name through a database called “Protect My Ministry.”
Our 5pm Christmas Eve Service is particularly high in families and visitors with young children. It would be great to have that volunteer nursery team in place by the beginning of December. Our children are a blessing, and to serve in the nursery is a blessing to you and their families. Thank you in advance for considering and praying about this ministry opportunity.
Wednesday night ministry update!
Collide 56 and Camp Wednesday are going great! I am thankful for the kids that are coming and the leaders that faithfully work with them. Pictured above are Kim and Elissa, two leaders for our K-4th grade kids at Camp Wednesday. In the picture above, they are working on a fun craft that we will be doing later this year. Krys Merriam is in the other picture; she is preparing fun Christmas ornament crafts. Krys works directly with our 5th and 6th graders on Wednesday nights, but is also helping me with Christmas ornament crafts for the Camp Wednesday group. As time is slipping by fast, we will begin these ornaments very soon. We will also have a special time with Sheryl Hunt and her daughter, Grace. They have a fun, hands-on Christmas ornament to make with the kids.
If you have any ideas of fun “camp crafts” that you think our kids would like, please let me know. Maybe you can be our next special guest at Camp Wednesday!
The Holidays are upon us!
I am very excited about Thanksgiving and Christmas. I love celebrating with family and friends, reflecting on what we are thankful for. I am thankful for Pearce Church, the ministries I get to oversee, my family, my friends, and my dog Coco (pictured right). I am a very blessed person. Maybe for the month of November, you and your family can work together on a thankfulness journal. Every day, write down something you have to be thankful for.
I want to remind you of what is coming for our kids and their friends over the next two months. They are as follows:
- Sundays, November 2-December 14: Sunday School, 9–10:15am
- Wednesdays, November 5-December 10: Collide 56 & Camp Wednesday, 6:30-8pm
- Sunday, December 7: Children’s Christmas Musical, 6pm. Kids of Pearce will present GT and the Halo Express, followed by a cookie reception the Family Life Center.
- Wednesday, December 17: Family Story Hour, 6:30 -8pm. Pastor Wally will be reading two Christmas stories to the kids in Parmeter Chapel, followed by a reception and the Pearce toy makers in the Family Life Center.
- Sunday, December 21: Combined Worship, 10am. Kids will receive special Christmas kids’ bag that morning.
Highlighting an impacting event this past October!
The women of Pearce had a Fall Ladies’ Brunch on October 25. Many women attended, filling Parameter Chapel! I would like to thank the many volunteers who helped to make this event a success: those who set the tables; tech helpers; maintenance crew; kitchen crew; our graphics team; those who led us in beautiful music; the prayer team who prayed with women at the end; and our guest speaker, Mary Fleming. Mary shared her story, which was a testimony to God our Father’s faithfulness in her life. It was precious and life impacting. God is good and He can be trusted, even in the face of suffering and trials! Blessings to all of you as we move through this month of November, celebrating all we have to be thankful for together.
